A Big Kickback?

Tonight at ten on KOB-TV, I'll be reporting on a huge scam involving more than a dozen people and a state employee.

At the center of the alleged scam is a New Mexico woman who was responsible for helping needy families get financial assistance.

Instead, she's accused of cheating the government by funneling out hundreds of thousands of dollars to herself and other people by using her position as a state employee.

When I was gathering elements for this story, I was surprised no other media outlet in New Mexico picked up the story considering how many people are accused.

Not the first time this happened at CYFD - this same thing happened out of the Santa Fe office a few years back - guess they have not fixed that flaw in the system yet

The woman in Santa Fe was one of the higher ups in charge of finance. She did the same thing as the woman in Silver City did, they just kept it covered up better so as to not look so bad. (This happened under Mary Dale Bolson's watch.) It is so easy to steal money from CYFD Child Care. They have no fraud unit to investigate these things and even when they do find where fraud was committed the people are not made to pay back the money. That is bad management and it is a drain on taxpayers money. The excuse is "They are poor people and needed the money, they can't be expected to pay it back". When double payments went out due to a computer glitch employees were told not to ask for a payback; management just said "Merry Christmas". (This happened under Dr. Irene Sanchez's watch)
